Hassan Yussefi Eshkevari, est un jeun clerc, né en 1949. Il a fait ses études dans le Centre d’études religieuses de Qom (howzé-yé ‘élmiyé). L’auteur et traducteur d’une quinzaine de livres, il collabore depuis 1996, avec la Grand Encyclopédie de l’Islam. Fondateur du Centre culturel d’études shariatiennes », il fait également partie du comité de rédaction du mensuel « l’Iran de Demain » (aujourd’hui interdit) et collaborait activement avec d’autres quotidiennes comme le journal « jâmé’éh », « Tus » ou encore « sobhé azadégan ». Invité au Berlin avec un certain nombre d’intellectuels, de journalistes et écrivains iraniens, à la conférence de Berlin, il devait, avec Sorouche (qui finalement n’a pas participé à la conférence) parler de la nouvelle courant de réforme en islam, et exposer les grands traits caractéristiques de ce courant. Dans sa conférence de 9 avril 2000, à Berlin, H.YUSSEFI ESHKEVARI, présente les points de convergences existants entre les différentes tendances du courant intitulé “ nouvelle tendance religieuse. Il présente par la suite les deux principales tendances qui constituent ce courant. Voici un extrait traduit de son discours à Berlin.

Introduction

Hasan Yousefi Eshkevari, a religious scholar is one of the major members of the Iranian reformist movement. He, who has learned Islamic science in religious school of Qom (1) believes in reinterpreting of the scriptures or Islamic Renascence and reformation. He introduces himself as one of Shariati’s followers that he has emphasized it in his books, essays and lecture besides the cultural activities, Eshkevari has had political activities as a critic and opponent in both Pahlavi and Islamic government for a long time. In the necessity of political, He also was under Shariati’s influence.

One of his political lectures was on the future of Iran entitled “ Dictator ship and its history” that was presented in Berlin Conference in April 2000. One day after returning to Iran from Berlin he was arrested by the order of the prosecutor of the special court for the clergy (SCC) simply because of this lecture .He was tried in a closed court, but has not yet been sentenced. He is reportedly accused of following charges:

1-“acting against national security”

2- “deforming government official in published articles”

3-“denial of the Islamic faith”, “heresy”

4-“being at war with God”

5-“being a corrupter on earth”. These charges carry heavy sentences including flogging or even the death penalty. His imprisonment and charges have created national and international objections that are still continuing.
